about mmakerr.com
who we are
- Our mission is to take the friction out of making by providing tools that make it easy for all types of makers to bring their ideas to life.
- Our guiding principle is empathy: to provide the right tools and information that can help makers become more efficient and productive.
- The products you find on mmakerr.com seamlessly unite beauty and function; the tools are both practical and easy to use.
- We believe that, through our organization and curation efforts, the making process can be more straightforward and, ultimately, more enjoyable.
- We designed mmakerr.com with a deep understanding of how fragmented and often complicated the made-to-order industry can be. As makers ourselves, with over 15 years of experience as both buyers and sellers, we found the experience to be frequently frustrating, lacking transparency, and burdened by a lengthy quoting and cumbersome ordering process. We often found ourselves wishing for a better solution. mmakerr.com is the culmination of all our wishes combined.
Hello There, I'm Karen.
Years ago, while working as an event planner in Toronto, I went to a cemetery hoping to troubleshoot a bride's flower emergency. Rest assured, I was simply looking for a garden in bloom (which Canadian cemeteries tend to have during the summer!).
We also once catered a VIP event where the guest of honor was secretly revealed to us as a British VVIP named "David." We were ecstatic, thinking we might see David Beckham in the flesh. Much to our disappointment, we later realized it was David Cameron, the UK's former Prime Minister. (Wonk wonk wonk.)
To say that my event planning days are quite colorful is an understatement. I fell in love with events while growing up, witnessing the perks of my parents working for the likes of the Royal Palace of Saudi Arabia, the residence of the Governor General of Canada (the representative of the Queen), and planning social events for the U.S. Embassy, which included a visit by then-President Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton.
I eventually set up shop in Toronto and then Dubai, earning the stripes associated with catering to clients such as the UAE Royal Family, Formula One, Guns N' Roses, Justin Bieber's concert, Disney on Ice, the Colombian Consulate, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and Ryerson University, to name a few. The name-dropping may sound obnoxious, but believe me, it's not as glamorous as it sounds. It's merely to illustrate the breadth of our experience, catering to the most meticulous of events while working with both domestic and international suppliers and manufacturers, the combination often frustrating, problematic, unpredictable, nail-biting, and downright scary.
While my event planning days are behind me, my passion for solving the problems that used to frustrate me never dwindled. Thus, mmakerr.com. Combining our years of industry experience, we aim to make this site the go-to resource for makers around the world, regardless of the size or style of the project.
I hope you enjoy using mmakerr.com and find value in it so you can continue making what you love and loving what you make.
